Hyves is becoming mature

My Hyves
Social networks, we all know them. MySpace, Facebook, Netlog, BeBo, Orkut, Live Space etc. Each country has its own favorite network. Worldwide Facebook and MySpace are the biggest networks. The Netherlands also has a social network, called Hyves. It is growing fast, almost 9 million members right now. Off course I also got a Hyves membership (why? because everyone over here has!). I think I’ve been one of their first members and never been impressed, and still I am not impressed… but that might change. The site was loading very slow and really looked terrible.. finally..after 5 years.. Hyves improved their looks.. and speed I hope 
. Still there are many things to improve. About a year ago a certain Joop van de Ende bought Hyves. He is the Dutch Berlusconi or Ted Turner, producer of musicals, TV shows and so much more and very important, all he thinks about is earning more money.. well… it won’t take long if members of Hyves will have to pay for adding gadgets, it’s already being announced. Anyway.. I’m glad Hyves starts to look more… professional, but worldwide they will never become as big as netlog, bebo, myspace or facebook, unless they come up with a great idea!

Hyves was very slow, long loading, confusing etc. But finally after all these years there is some improvement. Within a short while people will have to pay for certain gadgets. The fact that almost everybody in the Netherlands has a Hyves account, doesn’t mean is is very good or nice. The Dutch are very stubborn, it’s the only country in the world where Firefox isn’t the fastest growing browser, but IE ! Also the use of MSN messenger is huge in the Netherlands, despite there are safer, easier and better instant messengers. Hyves is still small, about 7 million users and it won’t grow much further, unless they become international. But it will never be able to compete with Facebook (+/- 600 million users), MySpace and Netlog.

- Icarus: I agree.. as you can see 2 Dutch cities (The Hague and Amsterdam) are in the top 3 of having the most expensive parking fees in the WORLD!! Probably
- aliciajennifer: I had to park in Zwolle a few weeks ago and the parking rates there were higher than the highest rates in the city centre of Rotterdam! Ridiculous.
- Icarus: Yes, he was very popular. Now he lost his job at the army and is he is banned for two years. A fallen star....

Hyves is really very nice. Almost everybody in Holland has a Hyves account
